Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the course, it was noted ASIA STAR had lost its near side front plate. The horse was re-plated before being presented in the parade. On jumping, RECOGNITION was checked rather severely when crowded between STAR OF WAH YAN and INCREDIBLE which left the gates awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. EN RAPPORT was slowly away. About 100 Metres from the line, ASIA STAR became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly. Because of this, Y T Cheng stopped riding and straightened. When asked about the disappointing performance of INCREDIBLE, S Dye said he has not been riding the horse in any of its work and in fact had basically nothing to do with INCREDIBLE before tonight's race. He said the horse left the gates very badly, shifted out abruptly and in the early stages he did think he was going to get a position three wide, but was unable to do so and had to travel four wide outside MISSION POSSIBLE. He said he pushed INCREDIBLE hard to try and go forward, pass MISSION POSSIBLE and get in, but had a lot of difficulty even doing this. He said he did get to a position three wide from the rail about 800 Metres out, but INCREDIBLE at no stage of the race was travelling as he thought it should and was well beaten after the 600 Metres. He said INCREDIBLE did become awkward between MISSION POSSIBLE an EN RAPPORT near the 400 Metres, but in the circumstances of this race this was of little or no significance. He said over about the last 300 Metres he did not ride INCREDIBLE out as the horse was in his opinion in somewhat of a distressed condition. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of INCREDIBLE, said the horse had been working well since its last good run and he anticipated it would run well tonight. He did point out INCREDIBLE is a colt and it could have been that when the horse left the gates badly and shifted out abruptly, it may very well have squeezed itself and in future he is considering vaselining the horse before it runs. The performance of INCREDIBLE was considered unacceptable. Before it races again, it has to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. The Stewards allowed C Williams (MISSION POSSIBLE) an opportunity of explaining the disappointing performance of the horse. C Williams said he has been doing all the work with MISSION POSSIBLE and did expect the horse to run well tonight. He said he was offered the rides on both MISSION POSSIBLE and INCREDIBLE and considered they were excellent chances, but decided to accept the ride on MISSION POSSIBLE. He said the horse usually leaves the gates cleanly, puts itself in a forward position, but tonight did not begin as well as hoped and although he was obliged to race wide, he did have cover and did think the horse was travelling well enough during the race although it was inclined to pull. He said however MISSION POSSIBLE was well beaten before the Home Turn. Before being allowed to race again, MISSION POSSIBLE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. INCREDIBLE and MISSION POSSIBLE were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
