Racing Incident Report
During the week, SELF FLIT hung in badly during its track work and proved difficult to manage. The veterinary examination revealed the horse had evidence of sharp teeth problems and had muscular tension around the head and neck area. Accordingly it was withdrawn on 24.12.02 and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SALENTINO (G Schofield). The Stewards have decided that before SELF FLIT can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and must pass an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, HELENE MOMENTUM became fractious and reared. As a consequence of this, G Mossé was dislodged. He was examined by the ambulance officer at the Start who said he was not able to fulfil his engagement. Therefore to avoid an unreasonable delay, HELENE MOMENTUM was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. FANTASY jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CELEBRATION. GOOD RECORD was slowly away. Near the 800 Metres, NOBLE BOY got its head up and lost ground when reluctant to race inside CELEBRATION. Also near the 800 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY shifted out from behind FANTASY to take up a position behind ENTERTAINING. As a consequence of this, LUCKY COMBINATION was obliged to race wider. About the 500 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY endeavoured to shift out, in doing so bumped LUCKY COMBINATION. Near the 200 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY was disappointed for running between ENTERTAINING and LUCKY COMBINATION. At this time, SERIOUS PLAY was accidentally hit on the head by the whip of S Dye (LUCKY COMBINATION). Near the winning post, SERIOUS PLAY was inconvenienced by LUCKY COMBINATION which had a tendency to shift out. Because of this, the horse was not ridden to the winning post in the normal way. CLASSIC MASTER and LUCKY COMBINATION were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted that LUCKY COMBINATION was bleeding from the mouth. The Veterinary Surgeon said that in his opinion this was as a result of the horse having loosened an upper tooth.
