Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, PROFIT TREASURE stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before PROFIT TREASURE will be permitted to race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. From a gate towards the outside, BARFOLD HERO was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the rail. Shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion, ALBELA was crowded for room inside WINNING SUNSHINE which was carried in slightly by SIXTY SECONDS. Apprentice K Y Yeung (SIXTY SECONDS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WINNING SUNSHINE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice K T Yeung's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 2 October 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday 21 September 2003. Near the 1100 Metres, FRUITFUL TRIP was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUST IN TIME. For some distance after the 1000 Metres, ALWAYS ZIETEN proved difficult to settle. FRUITFUL TRIP became unbalanced and bumped the running rail making the Home Turn. Also making the Home Turn, JUST IN TIME blundered and almost fell when racing tight inside ALBELA which in turn was racing tight inside GOT IT RIGHT. When JUST IN TIME blundered, it then shifted out and caused inconvenience on its outside to SHOW BRAVELY which was severely checked and DIVINE FEELING which was carried wider. Although the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards agreed with the riders' opinion that they were unable to apportion blame to any other rider and felt that the positioning of the rail on this section of the track may have contributed to the incident. In the circumstances, no action was taken and a review of the positioning of the rail will be conducted. At the 100 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY, which was beginning to close the race off strongly, was checked when disappointed for running between GOT IT RIGHT which shifted out slightly when giving ground and ALBELA which was taken in slightly by BARFOLD HERO. In the circumstances, no action was taken. D Dunn (DIVINE FEELING) said at the horse's first start this season it began too well, then over-raced and consequently failed to finish off. He said tonight the intention had been to ride the horse quietly as it had been in the past. He said DIVINE FEELING began only fairly, then he did not ride it along to prevent it from over-racing. He said the horse immediately dropped the bit, became detached from the main field and was further back than was intended, however, he was able to make ground gradually without having to use the horse in the middle stages and he was satisfied to join the main field passing the 600 Metres. He said DIVINE FEELING was hampered on the Home Turn, but then closed the race off strongly tonight. JUST IN TIME was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of JUST IN TIME after the race did not show any significant findings. SHOW BRAVELY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SHOW BRAVELY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were made. WINNING SUNSHINE and EXULTATION were sent for sampling.
