Racing Incident Report

ABLE CHOICE, RED PEPPER, PRECISION and GREAT DELIGHT were slow to begin. On jumping, MERIDIAN STAR got its head up and shifted in. When the gates opened, DASHING WINNER bounded in the air. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, VICTORY WARRIOR hung in. In the middle stages, DASHING WINNER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIDDEN DRAGON. S Dye (GREAT DELIGHT) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position, however, it was felt it would not have sufficient speed to be able to lead in today's race. He said he rode along in the early stages and GREAT DELIGHT was immediately uncomfortable racing towards the rail where the ground was somewhat cut up. He said after the 1200 Metres GREAT DELIGHT dipped rather badly on a few occasions and became unbalanced, he therefore took hold of GREAT DELIGHT in an endeavour to get it properly balanced and help it through the ground. He said in the Straight when he shifted out to fresh turf GREAT DELIGHT closed the race off nicely. He said today as in the past GREAT DELIGHT did not handle the wet track. GREAT DELIGHT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GREAT DELIGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. MERIDIAN STAR and HIDDEN DRAGON were sent for sampling.
