Racing Incident Report

KEEN FLYER began awkwardly and got its head up. HIP HIP HOORAY was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, FELICITY made contact with ZERO IN. FELICITY then shifted out and made contact with TRIUMPHANT GLORY. Near the 1000 Metres, KEEN FLYER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FELICITY. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, AHEAD A HEAD hung out, on straightening shifted further out and bumped CHING HOI BOY. Near the 600 Metres, TRIUMPHANT GLORY was carried wider by BARFOLD HERO which shifted to the outside of the heels of AURELIAN. On straightening, HIP HIP HOORAY was steadied and shifted to the inside of AHEAD A HEAD. In the early part of the Straight, AURELIAN was held up and unable to improve between LASER GLORY and ZERO IN. Near the 300 Metres, FELICITY was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between AURELIAN and JOINT PEACE, both horses shifted slightly. For some distance after this, FELICITY was held up and unable to improve. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred over the concluding stages which cast sufficient doubt on whether AURELIAN and TRIUMPHANT GLORY should be declared dead heat 3rd placegetters. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that after the 200 Metres AURELIAN and TRIUMPHANT GLORY came together as a result of both horses shifting ground. Then further about 30 Metres from the winning post, AURELIAN and TRIUMPHANT GLORY again came together after having raced tight for some distance and both horses shifting slightly. The Stewards were of the opinion that both AURELIAN and TRIUMPHANT GLORY had contributed to the inconvenience between the two horses, in the circumstances the Judge's placings as semaphored should be confirmed. W M Lai (TRIUMPHANT GLORY) explained over the concluding stages his right hand had been struck by the whip of Apprentice H W Lai (AURELIAN). He said after passing the winning post he pointed his whip at the whip of Apprentice H W Lai and told him to be careful when using it in future while racing tightly with other runners. W M Lai was severely reprimanded for his conduct after passing the winning post and advised against a repetition. S Dye (AHEAD A HEAD) said in the early stages he rode forward, however, he was not able to cross runners to his inside in the lead, he therefore approaching the 800 Metres attempted to steady his mount in the hope of being able to shift in and obtain cover, however, when he did this LASER GLORY and ZERO IN also steadied the tempo in front which obliged him to remain racing three wide. He said near the 600 Metres AHEAD A HEAD lost ground quickly and raced ungenerously afterwards, then in the Straight gave ground. Following the race on pulling up, AHEAD A HEAD was shaking uncontrollably. Before being allowed to race again, AHEAD A HEAD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AHEAD A HEAD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of AHEAD A HEAD after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. ZERO IN, BARFOLD HERO and LUCKY KING were sent for sampling.
