Racing Incident Report

Before being presented in the Parade Ring, it was noted BARRACUDA had shifted its left front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. BARRACUDA and MILLENNIUM SUPREME were slow to begin. LUCKY BIRD was slow to begin and then in the early stages was reluctant to stride out. Shortly after the start, LOK WAH TREASURE was bumped by ALLEGRO. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, LOK WAH TREASURE was checked when crowded for room between SPEED WINNER which was taken out slightly by BAYVIEW LAD which got its head up and shifted out when awkwardly placed inside the heels of GREAT KID and ALLEGRO which was carried in by ARRIBA-ARRIBA which had its head on the side when hanging in and shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Shortly after this, ALLEGRO was steadied when crowded for room between SPEED WINNER and ARRIBA-ARRIBA which continued to shift in while hanging. Near the 1600 Metres, BAYVIEW LAD was steadied to avoid the heels of GREAT KID which shifted in after being bumped by WE'RE BUDDIES. In the early and middle stages, LOK WAH TREASURE proved difficult to settle and near the 1100 Metres became unbalanced when close to the heels of ARRIBA-ARRIBA. At the 800 Metres, FORTUNE LAD became unbalanced when bumped by WE'RE BUDDIES. Shortly after this, FORTUNE LAD was steadied away from the heels of WE'RE BUDDIES. For some distance after the 400 Metres, BAYVIEW LAD was held up and unable to improve when racing behind TEA FOR CHAMP and inside the heels of HAIL WINNER, both of which were giving ground. Over about the last 200 Metres, TORI TOP shifted out and on two occasions made contact with BARRACUDA. Because of this, K C Tsang, the rider of TORI TOP, was at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. Near the 100 Metres, HAIL WINNER, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of SPEED WINNER which shifted in slightly. Just prior to the winning post, TEA FOR CHAMP was momentarily steadied away from the heels of BAYVIEW LAD. Over the concluding stages, MILLENNIUM SUPREME hung in. For the major part of the race, FORTUNE LAD and HAIL WINNER raced wide and without cover. K C Tsang (TORI TOP) said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover. He said TORI TOP began well, in the early stages he looked across to see if he was able to shift to a position with cover, however, horses to his inside were not showing the pace he had anticipated. He said when TORI TOP was not able to obtain cover, it proved difficult to settle and therefore he allowed it to stride along and lead. LOK WAH TREASURE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. FORTUNE LAD and WE'RE BUDDIES were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, LOK WAH TREASURE, FORTUNE LAD and WE'RE BUDDIES were examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. BARRACUDA and TORI TOP were sent for sampling.
