Racing Incident Report

SMART CHAMPION was withdrawn on 12.3.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter INDUBITABLY BLISS. Before being allowed to race again, SMART CHAMPION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. OUT OF MY WAY began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. On jumping, SAINT THOMAS was bumped between ARROGANCE and OPERATION HUMOUR, both of which shifted ground. MY EGO was slow to begin. W Woods (THE WORLD OF LOVE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ARROGANCE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. When ARROGANCE checked, inconvenience was caused to OPERATION HUMOUR. W Woods was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 12 April 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 17 March 2004. At the 700 Metres, HOROSCOPE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of INDUBITABLY BLISS. On straightening, INDUBITABLY BLISS shifted out and bumped HOROSCOPE which as a result was carried wider From on straightening until near the 200 Metres, HELENE PILLAGING was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind SWISS LAD and inside HAPPY PARTNERS. To obtain clear running, HELENE PILLAGING was shifted to the outside of HAPPY PARTNERS and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of MR COOL. F Coetzee (INDUBITABLY BLISS) said shortly after straightening the saddle on the horse shifted back and because of this he was inconvenienced in riding the horse out. W M Lai (HOROSCOPE) said he had been instructed to make sure he made his run on the outside, therefore near the 600 Metres he shifted to the outside of INDUBITABLY BLISS despite being aware there was clear running to the inside of that horse. W M Lai was told he at all times should ride in a manner to save ground where reasonable opportunities exist. HAPPY PARTNERS and SAINT THOMAS were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted HELENE PILLAGING had discharge from its right nostril.
