Racing Incident Report

On jumping, SERIOUS PLAY and RISING WIN were checked when crowded for room between SEASONS TREASURE and GOOD WIN which shifted out abruptly. In this incident, both SEASONS TREASURE and GOOD WIN also became badly unbalanced and lost ground. Also on jumping, FLYING SUCCESS was crowded for room between BARAKA and FRUITY FRUITY, both of which shifted ground. Making the first turn, GOOD WIN raced ungenerously and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of WINNING SUNSHINE. In the early stages, SEASONS TREASURE hung in. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, NEW FACE, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out away from the heels of TIRAMISU. Making the turns at the 600 Metres and again after the 400 Metres, SERIOUS PLAY shifted in and bumped the running rail. Throughout the race, FRUITY FRUITY raced in a forward position, however, was three wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred inside the final 200 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether NEW FACE should be declared the 2nd placegetter of the race. Apprentice P H Lo, the rider of TIRAMISU, 3rd placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against NEW FACE (P Payne) being declared the 2nd placegetter alleging interference to his mount inside the final 200 Metres. The Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that over about the last 100 Metres NEW FACE gradually shifted in and on several occasions bumped TIRAMISU, causing that horse to become unbalanced. The Stewards formed the opinion bearing in mind the short head margin that TIRAMISU would have finished ahead of NEW FACE had the interference which took place not occurred and therefore sustained the protest/objection. As such, NEW FACE was placed immediately behind TIRAMISU. Accordingly the amended placings became 1st WINNING SUNSHINE, 2nd TIRAMISU, 3rd NEW FACE, and 4th FLYING SUCCESS. At a subsequent inquiry, P Payne was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. SEASONS TREASURE, WINNING SUNSHINE and TIRAMISU were sent for sampling.
