Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, HAPPY FORTUNE, which had been standing badly, bounded in the air and lost considerable ground. WADADELIGHT, which was also restless in the stalls, began awkwardly and lost ground. From a gate towards the outside, ACCLAMATION, with the intention to be ridden in a rearward position tonight, was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SPOKESMAN was bumped by CHARIOT OF WEI HAI which shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, WADADELIGHT became unbalanced when tight inside QUICK STEP. After this for some distance, WADADELIGHT proved difficult to settle. At the 1200 Metres, ACCLAMATION was checked to avoid the heels of WADADELIGHT which itself when proving difficult to settle was coming back away from the heels of MAGIC TOUCH. In the early stages, FORTUNE BOY when racing wide and without cover proved difficult to settle, and then after the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride forward into the lead. For the majority of the race, OPERA MAGIC raced wide and without cover. Making the turn near the 600 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHERIFF BAMBOO which shifted in after being bumped by NICKU NICKU. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHARIOT OF WEI HAI. F Coetzee (SHERIFF BAMBOO) said the horse did not show the pace to lead tonight's race and after being crossed by SPOKESMAN after passing the winning post on the first occasion he momentarily had to steady away from the heels of that runner. He said when he did this SHERIFF BAMBOO then appeared to drop the bridle and lose interest in the race. He said he enjoyed a nice run throughout, however, in the Straight SHERIFF BAMBOO did not finish off as he had hoped. He did point out on the horse's exposed form it does appear to have a preference to racing on the All Weather surface at this stage of its career. The explanation submitted by F Coetzee was accepted. SHERIFF BAMBOO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SHERIFF BAMBOO after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE BOY and ACCLAMATION were sent for sampling.
