Racing Incident Report

On jumping, RESOURCEFUL PRINCE and PICTURE PERFECT bumped. PICTURE PERFECT then shifted in and bumped LUCKY LAD which at this time was shifting out after being brushed by FORTUNE LIFE. Shortly after the start, T Mundry (RISING WIN) reached down with his left hand to adjust his foot in the stirrup. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, TIRAMISU was steadied to avoid the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY which shifted in when only just clear. For the major part of the race and particularly on the turns, PARADIS hung out. After the 600 Metres, when commencing to give ground, PICTURE PERFECT hung out. Just prior to straightening, TANAHMERAH was shifted to the outside of BETTER BOY. At the 200 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily crowded for room between TIRAMISU and PARADIS. Shortly after this, SPEEDING MOLLY shifted in when close to the heels of TIRAMISU. After the 100 Metres, SUPER FANTASY, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped on two occasions by FORTUNE LIFE (Apprentice H W Lai) which was shifting into a narrow run on the outside of VICTORY MARBLE which itself shifted slightly. Apprentice H W Lai was advised to exercise more care. F Coetzee (BETTER BOY) explained the horse was slow to begin, but this was of no significance as the horse raced at the rear as is usual. He said making the first turn the horse got its head up and lay out as in his opinion it seemed to be resenting the kickback. He said BETTER BOY then continued to lay out and at no stage seemed comfortable in its stride. He said after entering the Back Straight he elected to shift to the outside of the field to see if the horse would travel more kindly for him which it did for a short distance, however, he placed BETTER BOY under pressure after the 600 Metres and it did not pick up the bridle as he anticipated. He said in the Straight BETTER BOY did make up a little ground, but did not close the race off as he had hoped. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. BETTER BOY and PICTURE PERFECT were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of BETTER BOY and PICTURE PERFECT after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY MARBLE and PARADIS were sent for sampling.
