Racing Incident Report
After arriving in the saddling stalls, it was noted FORTUNE WARRIOR had shifted its left front plate. This plate was re-set. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. ACCELERATION was slow to begin, then in the early stages raced greenly and making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out and was steadied away from the heels of HIKARI. Near the 1100 Metres, FORTUNE WARRIOR was steadied away from the heels of NORTHERN POWER which got its head on the side and hung in away from VERY FIT. From a gate towards the outside, VITAL PATROL raced wide and without cover throughout. Approaching the 600 Metres, SOLOMON was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ACCELERATION. Just prior to straightening, HIKARI and NORTHERN POWER bumped. After the 400 Metres, EASY GAME was steadied away from the heels of ACCELERATION and shifted out to obtain clear running. In the Straight, VITAL PATROL hung out. Near the 100 Metres, VITAL PATROL, which was giving ground and after making contact with HIKARI, became unbalanced and was checked when crowded for room between FORTUNE WARRIOR which was improving to the outside of VERY FIT which itself shifted out at this time and HIKARI which shifted in away from DON FELIPE which was also shifting in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the concluding stages, HIKARI was steadied when awkwardly placed between FORTUNE WARRIOR and DON FELIPE. Because of this, HIKARI was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. O Doleuze (VITAL FOUNTAIN) explained shortly after straightening he shifted out in an attempt to find clear running, then after the 400 Metres checked and shifted in to avoid the heels of NORTHERN POWER which at this time was giving ground. He said after this he rode his mount out vigorously hands and heels, on two occasions hit it with the whip and the horse closed the race off strongly. He said in his opinion VITAL FOUNTAIN will be better suited when racing over a distance further than the 1200 Metres of today's race. VITAL PATROL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VITAL PATROL after the race did not show any significant findings. TCHAIKOVSKY and VERY FIT were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported HORSE AROUND had bled from both nostrils.
