Racing Incident Report

VITAL PATROL was withdrawn on 14.12.04 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GLOBE RIVER (D Dunn). Before being allowed to race again, VITAL PATROL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A-TACK began awkwardly, bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. DANEMAN HILL, which was standing badly, was slow to begin. SUPREME STAR, which was having its first start in blinkers tonight, raced wide and without cover in the early stages, proved difficult to settle and approaching the 600 Metres was allowed to stride forward. In the middle stages, FRIENDS FOREVER proved difficult to settle and got its head up when close to the heels of HONOURABLE. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, JOYFUL MASTER, which was hanging in, bumped the running rail. In the Straight, DOWN FOR THE COUNT raced awkwardly and hung out. D Holland (FRIENDS FOREVER) explained making the Home Turn he was tight inside WAFER KING and he rode along to maintain his position. D Holland was advised in similar circumstances he should refrain from shifting his left elbow away from his body. D Dunn (GLOBE RIVER) said it was anticipated the horse would race in a rearward position as normal, however, he did hope to be in front of three or four other runners. He said when the gates opened GLOBE RIVER began a little awkwardly, took some time to get into stride and consequently he was at the rear. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres he commenced to improve his position on the inside of WAFER KING, however, GLOBE RIVER became unbalanced when that horse shifted in towards him. He said he remained racing towards the fence and after passing the 800 Metres commenced to improve towards the inside of FRIENDS FOREVER, however, near the 600 Metres that horse was not able to maintain its position and drifted in when barely clear and consequently he steadied and shifted out. He said he then immediately rode GLOBE RIVER along to try and make it again pick the bit up, he followed WAFER KING into the Straight and on straightening gave his mount a slap down the shoulder with the whip. He said he then rode along hands and heels and near the 200 Metres shifted towards a run on the outside of A-TACK where there was sufficient room. He said if his mount had quickened, he would have been able to secure that run, however, shortly afterwards A-TACK drifted out, he therefore shifted to the inside of that runner into clear running at the 100 Metres, then GLOBE RIVER finished off fairly. D Dunn was advised his explanation would be recorded. TABBRIS and GLOBE RIVER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TABBRIS and GLOBE RIVER after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPERSONIC and DOWN FOR THE COUNT were sent for sampling.
