Racing Incident Report

Mr D E Ferraris was fined $2,000 for declaring G Schofield as the rider of both EVERY TIME and GAUCHO in this race. Permission was given for S Dye to be substituted as the rider of GAUCHO. BRILLIANT FLASH was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was bumped by VICTORY WARRIOR which began awkwardly and shifted in. On jumping, STARDANE was bumped by ALWAYS WELCOME which shifted out. STARDANE then shifted further and made contact with BOBO WIN. From a gate towards the outside, FIVE GRAINS was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. In the middle stages, GAUCHO hung out and on straightening shifted ground and caused some crowding to JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE. On straightening, REWARDING KING was carried wider by SHOGUN which was steadied and shifted to the outside of EVERY TIME into clear running. After the 400 Metres, BRILLIANT FLASH, which was held up for clear running, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BOBO WIN. G Schofield (EVERY TIME) explained from a wide barrier the intention was to take the horse back and ensure it had cover. He said EVERY TIME began well and he immediately took hold of the horse in an endeavour to allow runners drawn to his inside to go forward. He said near the 1100 Metres he shifted across behind GAUCHO to be racing outside REWARDING KING, at the 1000 Metres he took another hold in an endeavour to get EVERY TIME which was travelling keenly to come back further to shift across behind REWARDING KING, however, EVERY TIME would not come back underneath him and as a consequence was left wide and without cover. He said when racing without cover EVERY TIME would not relax, pulled its way forward to race outside the leaders and consequently did not finish the race off. He did point out that prior to the race EVERY TIME was on the toe in the Parade Ring. The explanation submitted by G Schofield was accepted. VICTORY WARRIOR and EVERY TIME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY WARRIOR and EVERY TIME after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of VICTORY WARRIOR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VICTORY WARRIOR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HELENE PILLAGING and SHOGUN were sent for sampling.
