Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, CHEERFUL HEART became fractious and momentarily had its right hind leg caught in the back gate of its stall. The horse was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. PEAK POWER was slow to begin. After the 1200 Metres, CORNWALL CHIEFS was steadied away from the heels of SUPER IDEAL. At the 800 Metres, SPRINTER was steadied away from the heels of SUPER IDEAL. C Soumillon (BEAR DOMINANCE) said the horse usually begins badly. He said when racing at Happy Valley last start, after losing ground at the start he rode BEAR DOMINANCE along vigorously and used the whip in an endeavour to get it to stretch out and make up ground. He said on that occasion BEAR DOMINANCE loomed up to win the race, however, over the concluding stages in his opinion did not finish the race off as it should. He said because of this and the fact today's race was at Sha Tin, after BEAR DOMINANCE again began badly he endeavoured to allow the horse to settle in its own rhythm and gradually make up ground without having to make use of the horse. He added as a result of allowing the horse to find its stride it became detached from the field in the early stages. He said despite this he kept encouraging BEAR DOMINANCE to gradually go forward, however, the horse initially did not respond. He said when the pace began to steady after the 1100 Metres he was able to improve his position and at that point tacked onto the field. He said on straightening he shifted to the outside, BEAR DOMINANCE made ground quickly and he was of the opinion the horse would go on and win comfortably, however, over the final 200 Metres whilst BEAR DOMINANCE continued to make ground the horse in his opinion did not close the race off as expected. Mr J Moore, trainer of BEAR DOMINANCE, said he anticipated the horse would race in a rearward position, however, he was somewhat surprised that the horse became detached in the manner in which it did. He said he was satisfied C Soumillon gradually made ground to join the field without making use of the horse. C Soumillon was told his explanation would be reported. SUPER IDEAL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUPER IDEAL after the race did not show any significant findings. BEAR DOMINANCE, DR WELL and CHEERFUL HEART were sent for sampling.
