Racing Incident Report

On jumping, MONEY EXPRESS was bumped by MULTI RANSOM which was carried out by AMICABLE which on jumping shifted ground. After this, MONEY EXPRESS was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. Shortly after the start, HARVEST GALA was checked when crowded for room between DANEPRINT and OPTIC CHIEF which shifted in. L'ENFANT and HAPPY FORTUNE were slow to begin. After the 1600 Metres, L'ENFANT was steadied when crowded for room inside RED FIREBALL which got its head on the side and shifted in away from LUCKY BIRD which itself shifted in away from BAUHINIA. In the early stages, MULTI RANSOM raced in a forward position, three wide and without cover and then when unable to shift to a position with cover near the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride forward and join the lead. Over about the final 800 Metres, BAUHINIA hung out, proved difficult to ride and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of BAUHINIA was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BAUHINIA will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 700 Metres, AMICABLE was carried wider after being brushed by DANEPRINT. In the Straight, MONEY EXPRESS hung in. D Whyte (LUCKY BIRD) was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said the horse had previously won on rain affected ground and its work leading into today's race in his opinion had been good. He said at no stage did LUCKY BIRD travel as he thought it should and after straightening when under pressure he steadied LUCKY BIRD away from the heels of RED FIREBALL which shifted out slightly. He said this was of little consequence. BAUHINIA, HAPPY FORTUNE and LUCKY BIRD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BAUHINIA and LUCKY BIRD after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, it was reported HAPPY FORTUNE had bled from both nostrils. MULTI RANSOM, DANEPRINT and OPTIC CHIEF were sent for sampling.
