Racing Incident Report

LUCKY SPECIAL was withdrawn on 30.4.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CASH BABY (B Prebble). Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY SPECIAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, CROISSANT became fractious, lunged forward and broke through the front gate of its barriers. CROISSANT was quickly reined in and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, CROISSANT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. RED STORM RISING began awkwardly and blundered. On jumping, ACCOLADE became unbalanced when crowded for room between CAPABILITY and STORMY. F Coetzee (SOUTHERN LIGHT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GIFTED RUNNER, causing that horse to be crowded for room, lose its rightful running and be steadied. F Coetzee was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 12 May 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Wednesday 4 May 2005. In addition, F Coetzee was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. Near the 500 Metres, CAPABILITY was steadied and shifted out to go forward when unable to improve between ACCOLADE and CHOICE AND CHANCE which shifted out. At the 500 Metres, ELEGANT KING PRAWN hung out. Over the final 400 Metres, ACCOLADE hung out and because of this Apprentice H W Lai, its rider, changed the whip into his left hand. After the 200 Metres, ELEGANT KING PRAWN was brushed by HEALTHY which shifted in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of RED STORM RISING, D Whyte said despite beginning awkwardly and being crowded for room near the 800 Metres his mount travelled comfortably in the early stages. He said he was confident of success at the 500 Metres, however, when he asked RED STORM RISING to improve the horse did not quicken. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of RED STORM RISING. GIFTED RUNNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GIFTED RUNNER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GIFTED RUNNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RED STORM RISING, ELEGANT KING PRAWN and HEALTHY were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported following the race that CHEERFUL BOY was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CHEERFUL BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
