Racing Incident Report

STABLE MAIL was withdrawn on 19.5.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore limb infection) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MIGHTY HUGO (Y T Cheng). Before being allowed to race again, STABLE MAIL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, JOYFUL SPIRIT and GOLDEN SUN bumped heavily. Shortly after the start, GIFT lost ground when crowded for room between EQUATOR KID and VERY FIT which itself was crowded for room and carried in by BEING FAMOUS which shifted momentarily. No action was taken. At the 1200 Metres, BEING FAMOUS got its head on the side and hung in. At the 700 Metres, GOLDEN SUN shifted to the outside of BEING FAMOUS and made contact with VERY FIT. After this, GOLDEN SUN and VERY FIT raced tight and GOLDEN SUN attempted to savage VERY FIT. Mr C H Yip, trainer of GOLDEN SUN, will be advised a warning will be recorded against the horse and should it perform similarly again action may be taken. After the 600 Metres, GOLDEN SUN, which was continuing to race tight inside VERY FIT, became unbalanced when crowded for room between that horse and BEING FAMOUS which when commencing to give ground was carried wider by SIROCCO which shifted to the outside of LEILATI. No action was taken. In this incident, BEING FAMOUS also became unbalanced and lost ground. In addition, HAIL THE STORM, which was following BEING FAMOUS, was checked and shifted out to avoid that horse. At the 300 Metres, EQUATOR KID was steadied and shifted to the inside of HAIL THE STORM. In the Straight, SIROCCO hung in and at the 300 Metres Apprentice H W Lai, its rider, dropped his whip. A Delpech (VERY FIT) said shortly after the start the horse was crowded for room. He said VERY FIT then was reluctant to stride out and on a number of occasions got its head up. He said he continued to ride VERY FIT along, however, the horse did not respond, he therefore shifted wider on the track in the hope that it would travel better for him. He said in his opinion VERY FIT resented the track conditions. VERY FIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of VERY FIT after the race did not show any significant findings. B Prebble (BEING FAMOUS) said the horse did not travel well at any stage of today's race and on a number of occasions became unbalanced in its action. He said BEING FAMOUS started to give ground before the 600 Metres and was then crowded for room which in the circumstances was of no significance. He said after being crowded for room BEING FAMOUS continued to become unbalanced in its action and he was concerned something serious might have been amiss with the horse. He said because of this he eased BEING FAMOUS out of the race. He said on returning to scale BEING FAMOUS appeared distressed. BEING FAMOUS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BEING FAMOUS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, BEING FAMOUS will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (HAIL THE STORM) said the horse travelled fairly in the run, then on straightening when he shifted the horse to the outside of VERY FIT to make his run, it became unbalanced in its action and blundered. He said because of this he ensured HAIL THE STORM was properly balanced before he again commenced to ride along. He said at this time the horse changed legs, commenced to shift out and again was unbalanced in its action. He said because of this he became concerned with the horse, therefore he did not ride it out to the end of the race as he normally would. HAIL THE STORM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAIL THE STORM after the race did not show any significant findings. BUMPER BUMPER and LEILATI were sent for sampling.
