Racing Incident Report

QUICK NEWS was withdrawn on 20.5.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LASER GLORY (W M Lai). Before being allowed to race again, QUICK NEWS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THOUSAND WINS, which was leaning against the inside of its stall, was slow to begin. TREASURE RAIDERS began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. MIRACLE DRAGON began awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY MONEY which itself was slow to begin. LUCKY TRIO began awkwardly and then bumped with UNIVERSAL PIONEER. After the 200 Metres, THAT'S IT, which was having its first start and racing greenly, when being shifted to the outside of TREASURE RAIDERS shifted out abruptly and made contact with JOYFUL WORLD which was giving ground. As a consequence, JOYFUL WORLD was severely hampered. No action was taken. At the 100 Metres, MIRACLE DRAGON when being shifted to the outside of UNIVERSAL PIONEER into clear running got its head on the side, shifted abruptly and made contact with LASER GLORY. For the major part of the race, LUCKY TRIO when racing wide and without cover hung out, raced wide on the track and proved difficult to control for its rider, Apprentice K H Chan. The performance of LUCKY TRIO was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY TRIO will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. When questioned regarding GOODWOOD racing in a more favourable position today and being ridden along to do so, Mr A T Millard, trainer of the horse, said he instructed R Fradd to be as close as possible. He said at its last start which was in a higher class over 1600 Metres at Sha Tin when ridden by an apprentice jockey from the outside gate, the horse had got well back. He said the start prior to this on a wet track at Happy Valley GOODWOOD again got well back in the run. He said previously from a favourable draw over the same course and distance as today GOODWOOD had been ridden prominently. The explanation of Mr Millard was reported. When questioned regarding the performance of LUCKY MONEY, which finished tailed out, Y T Cheng, the horse's rider, said as he had explained when the horse was successful at its last start it appreciated the outside draw as it was able to race outside runners and travel comfortably. He said he had also previously explained LUCKY MONEY resented racing inside runners. He said today from barrier 4 the intention had been to try and ensure LUCKY MONEY began well, then continue on in a straight line in a forward position and on the outside of other runners. He said when the gates opened LUCKY MONEY lifted its front feet off the ground, was slow to begin and as a consequence was immediately crossed by GLORIOUS LIGHT which had drawn outside it. He said LUCKY MONEY despite his riding after this failed to muster speed. He said he then shifted LUCKY MONEY wider on the track in an endeavour to have the horse pick up for him, however, LUCKY MONEY was reluctant to stride out and raced ungenerously. He said near the 800 Metres he rode LUCKY MONEY along vigorously hands and heels, however, it failed to respond, therefore near the 600 Metres he pulled the whip on the horse and it continued to give ground. He said over the final 200 Metres when it was apparent LUCKY MONEY was going to finish tailed out, he did not persevere riding the horse out. Mr K H Hung, assistant trainer allocated to Mr S T Wong, the trainer of the horse, confirmed the riding instructions issued to Y T Cheng. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of the horse, however, he did say it was still immature and he would now be recommending to Mr Wong that consideration be given to spelling LUCKY MONEY. Mr Hung added LUCKY MONEY had been well fancied by the stable today and the owners of the horse had been advised accordingly. Mr Hung was told the inconsistent performances in recent times of LUCKY MONEY were considered unacceptable. He was told before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must prove its competitiveness to the Stewards in a series of successive official barrier trials from inside gates around a bend. LUCKY MONEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY MONEY after the race did not show any significant findings. TREASURE RAIDERS, THOUSAND WINS and SUN AND ZAMEEN were sent for sampling.
