Racing Incident Report
At declaration time, B Prebble was declared to ride both ZHI YOU SPIRIT and KID GALAXY. It was established B Prebble had a firm commitment to ride KID GALAXY and had been mistakenly declared to ride ZHI YOU SPIRIT. As such, A Delpech was substituted as the rider of ZHI YOU SPIRIT. For this error in declarations, Mr A T Millard, the trainer of ZHI YOU SPIRIT, was fined $2,000. POWERFUL began awkwardly and lost ground. JUST IN TIME began awkwardly, blundered and then shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between LUCKY ENCOUNTER and FORTUNE ALL TIMES, both of which shifted ground. When the gates opened, KID GALAXY bounded in the air and lost ground. In the early and middle stages, BALL OF FIRE proved difficult to settle and near the 400 Metres was checked away from the heels of KID GALAXY when disappointed for running between that horse and OH GREAT. Near the 250 Metres, OH GREAT, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between POWERFUL which shifted in slightly and BALL OF FIRE (H K Yim) which shifted out to obtain a run. H K Yim was advised to exercise care. G Mossé (OH GREAT) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of that horse. He said at no stage of tonight's race did OH GREAT travel well and was under pressure a considerable distance from home. OH GREAT and FORTUNE ALL TIMES were sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. JUST IN TIME and HERO OF ABALONE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of OH GREAT, FORTUNE ALL TIMES, JUST IN TIME and HERO OF ABALONE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performances of JUST IN TIME and HERO OF ABALONE, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, JUST IN TIME and HERO OF ABALONE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BAYVIEW LAD and BALL OF FIRE were sent for sampling.
