Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie fitted to KEEN FLYER was replaced. KEEN FLYER began awkwardly, then shifted out abruptly. ABERDEEN was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between CAPITALAND and PARADIS which on jumping shifted in abruptly. ENCHANTED began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. From the outside gate, SURVEYOR was immediately taken back across behind runners. Near the 700 Metres, SHABU SHABU was steadied when crowded for room between CORAJOSO which shifted in slightly when itself being steadied away from the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY and ABERDEEN which shifted out abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT. No action was taken. At the 500 Metres, CAPITALAND became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT which at this time shifted towards the outside of PARADIS in an endeavour to improve its position. Shortly after this, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT became unbalanced after being bumped by CAPITALAND. After the 200 Metres, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT and MILITARY OPTION bumped. Near the 100 Metres, SPEEDING MOLLY was steadied away from the heels of CAPITALAND (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted out. Apprentice Lai was told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mount. C Williams (PARADIS) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse positively in the early stages in the hope of being able to obtain a midfield position similar to how it raced at its last start. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode PARADIS along in the early stages, the horse responded to his riding and he found himself being able to cross to race in a prominent position without having to make too much use of PARADIS and consequently the horse raced behind the leaders. He said while PARADIS raced further forward than anticipated, it was the manner in which the horse began and the race was run in the early stages that allowed it to obtain its position. The explanation submitted by C Williams was accepted. CAPITALAND, PARADIS and ABERDEEN were sent for sampling.
