Racing Incident Report
OH GREAT was slow to begin. PREMIER BURG began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LA MERVEILLE. PLEASANT JOURNEY began awkwardly and lost ground, then after being ridden along from the outside barrier raced wide and without cover throughout the race and gave ground in the Straight. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LA MERVEILLE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of PREMIER BURG when racing tight inside DOLPHIN STAR which in turn was racing tight inside LUCKY ENCOUNTER. Making the first turn, LUCKY ENCOUNTER hung in when racing three wide and without cover. Near the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE GOLD was steadied away from the heels of FUN CRUISER which itself steadied away from the heels of NOBLE ZOOM which was taken back away from the heels of WYNDAM PLENTY (A Delpech) which at this point lost ground while leading. A Delpech reported at this time WYNDAM PLENTY propped and lost ground sharply. After the 900 Metres, FORTUNE GOLD was bumped on two occasions when racing tight inside OH GREAT which got its head on the side and shifted ground. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, FORTUNE GOLD was steadied when tightened for room inside OH GREAT which shifted in after being brushed by SWEETIE. Shortly after straightening, LA MERVEILLE was steadied and shifted to the outside of DOLPHIN STAR into clear running. In the Straight, LA MERVEILLE hung in. The performance of SUPER WINNER, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SUPER WINNER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Munce (FORTUNE GOLD) said for him to maintain his position on the inside of FUN CRUISER approaching the winning post on the first occasion would have required him to have ridden vigorously and he did not believe this to be in the best interests of the horse. He added had he persevered trying to maintain this position, he most likely would have received interference. WYNDAM PLENTY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WYNDAM PLENTY after the race did not show any significant findings. LA MERVEILLE, NOBLE ZOOM and DOLPHIN STAR were sent for sampling.
