Racing Incident Report

With permission of the Stewards, DANRIVA was withdrawn on 31.10.05 (family bereavement) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter DASHING THUNDER. ABERDEEN began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, BYRON and PRESENT TREASURE bumped. SOUNDS BEST was a little slow to begin. After the 1600 Metres, SOUNDS BEST, which was being hard ridden to improve its position, raced tight between PHOENIX FORTUNE and SPEEDING MOLLY, making contact with both horses. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, SUNBELL was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY MARBLE which was carried in by ALWAYS ZIETEN. S K Sit (ALWAYS ZIETEN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of VICTORY MARBLE, causing that horse to be carried in and caused crowding on its inside to DASHING THUNDER which as a result lost its rightful running. SUNBELL, which was following, was steadied in consequence. S K Sit was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 21 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Wednesday 9 November 2005. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BYRON was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOUNDS BEST. In the early and middle stages, PRESENT TREASURE raced wide and without cover and travelled into a forward position. Shortly after straightening, BYRON, which was unable to obtain clear running, was shifted out to avoid the heels of KING HOGAN. After this, BYRON continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 200 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, DASHING THUNDER had difficulty obtaining clear running between SPEEDING MOLLY and PRESENT TREASURE which was giving ground. At the 250 Metres, KING HOGAN, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when bumped by SOUNDS BEST which at this time was improving on the inside of VICTORY MARBLE. Approaching the 200 Metres, ABERDEEN, which was beginning to close the race off and having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted out. C Brown (DASHING THUNDER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SPEEDING MOLLY, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. C Brown was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 21 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 13 November 2005. In addition, C Brown was fined $35,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. After the 200 Metres, VICTORY MARBLE, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when being steadied as a result of being crowded for room between SPEEDING MOLLY which had been carried in by DASHING THUNDER and SOUNDS BEST (E Saint-Martin) which shifted out when not properly clear. In the circumstances, E Saint-Martin was reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. When VICTORY MARBLE was steadied, inconvenience was caused to BYRON which was improving on its inside. SPEEDING MOLLY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDING MOLLY after the race did not show any significant findings. DASHING THUNDER and SOUNDS BEST were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported BYRON had sustained minor lacerations to the left front pastern and coronet.
