Racing Incident Report

During the preliminary, NEW COMMAND dislodged Y T Cheng, its rider. NEW COMMAND continued to the Start where it was recaptured and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Y T Cheng was uninjured. After being boxed, GOLD GEM became fractious. GOLD GEM was removed from its stall, had an adjustment made to its saddle and was then examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, GOLD GEM will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When the gates opened, NORTHERN HERO got its head up, began awkwardly and lost a considerable amount of ground. GREAT PERFORMANCE was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, ACCELERATOR, SUN AWESOME and ASIAN NAVAL were crowded for room outside AMAZING WIN which on jumping shifted out and was then carried out further by HONG KONG LAD. BIG KAHUNA, which was racing to the outside of ASIAN NAVAL, made contact with the hindquarters of that horse and lost ground. Near the 800 Metres, GOLD GEM (O Doleuze), which after being slow to begin, was hard ridden to make up ground and was checked when crowded for room inside the heels of AMAZING WIN (D Whyte) which at this time shifted in. In the circumstances and having considered the evidence tendered by O Doleuze, the Stewards believed it appropriate to severely reprimand D Whyte. O Doleuze stated the manner in which his mount was travelling had contributed to the degree of this interference. When GOLD GEM checked, it shifted out abruptly, causing SUN AWESOME and BIG KAHUNA to be checked in consequence. In the middle stages, EXPLORATION and GREAT PERFORMANCE hung out. On straightening, BIG KAHUNA was shifted to the inside of AMAZING WIN to obtain clear running. At the 300 Metres, BIG KAHUNA was steadied when crowded for room inside AMAZING WIN which got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. In the Straight, NEW COMMAND hung in. The performances of SUN AWESOME and SAFARI KING, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUN AWESOME and SAFARI KING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLD GEM, SAFARI KING and SUN AWESOME were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, GOLD GEM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained an abrasion to the right front forearm. A veterinary inspection of SAFARI KING and SUN AWESOME after the race did not show any significant findings. HONG KONG LAD, BEAR MACHO and THUNDER FLASH were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 5 June 2006)
SAFARI KING, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SAFARI KING was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. As previously advised, SAFARI KING will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
