Racing Incident Report

VIKING TOR was withdrawn on 3.6.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (abnormality in blood profile). Before being allowed to race again, VIKING TOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. During the preliminary, M W Leung was dislodged from GOLD FIELD. GOLD FIELD was quickly recaptured and after arriving at the Start was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CHINSOLA, which was standing awkwardly, was slow to begin and was then taken across behind runners. GOOD PARTNER began awkwardly. Passing the 1600 Metres, GOLD FIELD got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BOUNTIFUL. At the 1400 Metres, SEASONS KNACK and DR MORE raced tight inside GOOD PARTNER. Due to the tempo of the race, SEASONS KNACK proved very difficult to settle after the 1200 Metres and near the 1000 Metres MILITARY OPTION, which had been proving difficult to settle when racing wide and without cover, was allowed to stride forward. At the 400 Metres, BOUNTIFUL was steadied and shifted to the inside of MILITARY OPTION which at this time was giving ground. Near the 300 Metres, BOUNTIFUL was then steadied and shifted to the outside of GOOD PARTNER to obtain clear running. When questioned, W C Marwing (TACTIC KING) said he had been instructed because of the anticipated lack of speed in the race to have the horse if possible in 4th or 5th position. He said TACTIC KING began well, immediately travelled into the bridle and was able to cross to the fence near the 1600 Metres. He said he then allowed MASTER MARAUDER to go forward of him to obtain a position with cover. He added because of the tempo of the race TACTIC KING continued to prove difficult to settle for a considerable distance afterwards. He said TACTIC KING raced further forward than anticipated, however, this was due to the tempo of the race. When questioned, Apprentice K T Yeung (MASTERY) said because of the anticipated lack of speed in the race he had been instructed to ride MASTERY along in the early stages to obtain a position further forward than is usual. He said after he obtained a position with cover, he was to wait with MASTERY until after straightening to make his run, so he rode his mount in accordance with those instructions. The Stewards will interview Mr A T Millard, trainer of MASTERY, in relation to this matter at Happy Valley next Wednesday. MATIRI KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MATIRI KING after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD
PARTNER, TACTIC KING and SEASONS KNACK were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 5 June 2006)
The Senior Veterinary Officer reported that GOOD PARTNER was this morning found to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD PARTNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
