Racing Incident Report
RENA'S WUNDERBAR was withdrawn on 16.10.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of blood in the trachea) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TURF GOLD. Before being allowed to race again, RENA'S WUNDERBAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TURF GOLD was slow to begin. ALIPES began awkwardly, bounded in the air and became unbalanced. On jumping, A BETTER DRAGON and UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR bumped. H K Yim (OPTIC KING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. H K Yim was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 30 October 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 21 October 2006. In addition, H K Yim was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. At the 1300 Metres, TURF GOLD was checked when crowded for room inside OPTIC KING which initially shifted in of its own accord and then was carried in further by DANSING FUN which momentarily shifted ground. H K Yim was severely reprimanded for causing the initial crowding to TURF GOLD. Throughout the race, STAR OF NORTHERN travelled wide and without cover. Mr D Cruz, trainer of SIMPLY THE BEST, was unable to offer an explanation for the improved performance of the horse. He said he had been disappointed with SIMPLY THE BEST's two prior runs this season, he therefore added side winkers to the gear of the horse. He said in addition tonight was the first occasion on which SIMPLY THE BEST had raced at Happy Valley. DANSING FUN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DANSING FUN after the race did not show any significant findings. JUSTINIAN, SIMPLY THE BEST and DANRIVA and were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported A BETTER DRAGON had lost its left front plate.
