Racing Incident Report
SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. After the 1000 Metres, LUCKY DIAMOND was carried wider by ABLE KNIGHT which shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of FUJIAN PRINCE. At the 800 Metres, MY BROTHER was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DIAMOND. After the 800 Metres, JADE DRAGONFLY was left racing without cover. In the early part of the Straight, SEASONS KNACK was shifted wider in an endeavour to find clear running, then near the winning post was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SECRET OF KINGS which shifted in. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, REGAL THRILLS was held up and unable to obtain clear running, then after the 200 Metres was shifted in to continue going forward. When questioned, D Whyte (DISGUISE) said the horse at its only previous run over 1600 Metres had been ridden in a forward position and failed to finish the race off as expected. He said it was anticipated there would be a number of runners going forward in today's race and for him to obtain a forward position would require him to make considerable use of DISGUISE in the early stages. He said because of this he was today from a wide barrier carrying 132 lbs asked to ride DISGUISE in a manner which would enable it to close the race off. He said accordingly he rode DISGUISE quietly in the early stages, shifted across behind runners and was going to obtain a position around midfield, however, near the 1400 Metres when following MY BROTHER, that horse was steadied to find a position and as a consequence DISGUISE steadied away from its heels and travelled further back than anticipated. He said near the 1100 Metres DISGUISE commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MY BROTHER. He said in the early part of the Straight he considered looking for a run between horses, however, he could see a number of runners in front of him, therefore he steadied and shifted out to follow SECRET OF KINGS, anticipating that horse would quicken. He said when SECRET OF KINGS did not quicken, he near the 300 Metres steadied and shifted to the outside of that horse after which DISGUISE closed the race off nicely. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of DISGUISE, confirmed the instructions issued and the reason for these instructions. Mr Ferraris was told his explanation would be reported. SECRET OF KINGS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SECRET OF KINGS after the race did not show any significant findings. JADE DRAGONFLY and CELEBRATION were sent for sampling.
