Racing Incident Report

In the early stages, TREASURE RAIDERS, which was racing with a visor for the first time today, proved difficult to settle and near the 900 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER. ACTIVE VALOUR, which was racing to the inside of TREASURE RAIDERS, was inconvenienced as a consequence. Passing the 700 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was steadied when awkwardly placed between GLORIOUS RHYTHM and ACTIVE VALOUR which got its head up and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL WORLD. Passing the 400 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was checked when disappointed for running between JOYFUL WORLD and ACTIVE VALOUR, both of which shifted ground. Passing the 200 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when tightened for room between I'M NO SQUARE which shifted out slightly and CHERISHED which was taken in by LEADER. No action was taken. Near the 100 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR was steadied when crowded for room between JOYFUL WORLD and FEEL-SO-GOOD which shifted in slightly. Also near the 100 Metres, CHERISHED was hampered when crowded for room between I'M NO SQUARE and LEADER which was taken in by FIRST KNIGHT (A Starke) which shifted ground under pressure. A Starke was advised to make more of an effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances. Passing the 100 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was checked when tightened for room between FEEL-SO-GOOD which shifted out to avoid causing crowding on its inside to ACTIVE VALOUR and GLORIOUS RHYTHM which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. The performance of FABULOUS TREASURE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FABULOUS TREASURE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Y T Cheng (MUTUAL GAIN) said he had been instructed because of the anticipated fast pace of the race that from a wide barrier he should allow the horse to begin and travel where it was comfortable without making use of it in the early stages. He said he was then instructed to improve his position from the 700 Metres as it was felt the tempo of the race would steady at this point. He said after beginning well he did not ride MUTUAL GAIN along, however, he raced wide and without cover making the first turn. He said he endeavoured to improve his position after the 700 Metres, MUTUAL GAIN responded only fairly, then hung in making the Home Turn and failed to finish the race off. Mr T W Leung, trainer of MUTUAL GAIN, confirmed the riding instructions issued. He explained in his opinion to have ridden MUTUAL GAIN along in the early stages in an attempt to cross other runners would have required too much use to be made of the horse. He said he believed if the horse were able to improve its position after the 700 Metres it would be in the best interest of the horse to be ridden in this manner. He did say in races where the anticipated tempo would be slower MUTUAL GAIN would be ridden to go forward. VITALITY CHAMP was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VITALITY CHAMP after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY MASTER, TREASURE RAIDERS and I'M NO SQUARE were sent for sampling.
