Racing Incident Report

SUPER was withdrawn on 24.2.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JOYFUL WORLD (Apprentice H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, GLOBE RIVER lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. JOYFUL WORLD was slow to begin, then lost further ground when crowded for room between BUDDIES POWER and GLOBE RIVER which on jumping was carried out by UNIVERSAL KOMISSAR which began awkwardly. Near the 1200 Metres, JOYFUL WORLD, which had been ridden along to make up ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHAMP DRAGON. After the 600 Metres, NATURAL MODEL was steadied when awkwardly placed outside SHANGHAI DELIGHT and tight inside GLOBE RIVER. At the 500 Metres, SHANGHAI DELIGHT became unbalanced when close to the heels of THUNDER STORM and tight inside NATURAL MODEL. Prior to straightening, GLOBE RIVER was checked when crowded for room between NATURAL MODEL and BUDDIES POWER which at this time commenced to give ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 300 Metres, SUPER DRAGON, which was giving ground, became unbalanced and was checked when crowded for room inside THUNDER STORM (B Prebble) which initially commenced to improve into a tight run between SUPER DRAGON and DEVON FLAIR and then was carried in slightly by DEVON FLAIR which shifted ground. In the circumstances, the Stewards advised B Prebble to ensure there was sufficient room before improving into runs. Throughout the race, BUDDIES POWER travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performances of BUDDIES POWER, GLOBE RIVER and SUPER DRAGON were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BUDDIES POWER, GLOBE RIVER and SUPER DRAGON will all have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. E Saint-Martin (SHATIN WIN WIN) explained it was anticipated he would ride the horse in a rearward position. He said SHATIN WIN WIN began very awkwardly, causing him to become badly unbalanced and come back on the horse's mouth, as a consequence SHATIN WIN WIN lost considerable ground at the start. He said in the early stages of the race he niggled at SHATIN WIN WIN, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and soon became detached. He said he continued to niggle at SHATIN WIN WIN after the 800 Metres, however, the horse was reluctant to take up the bridle. He said after straightening he shifted SHATIN WIN WIN to the outside and the horse commenced to close the race off strongly, however, in his opinion the run of SHATIN WIN WIN ended 100 Metres from the winning post as it had done at its previous start. He said for him to have been more vigorous on SHATIN WIN WIN after the 800 Metres in his opinion would have prevented the horse from closing the race off in the manner in which it did. E Saint-Martin was told his explanation would be reported and he was to ensure where circumstances permit he does not set his mounts too difficult a task. Apprentice C K Tong (CHAMP DRAGON) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse other than to say the second quarter of the race was run at a quick tempo and he was required to make use of CHAMP DRAGON to maintain his position. He said after straightening CHAMP DRAGON stayed on satisfactorily in the early stages, however, over the last 150 Metres gave ground. The performance of CHAMP DRAGON was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHAMP DRAGON will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHAMP DRAGON was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. BUDDIES POWER, GLOBE RIVER and JOYFUL WORLD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP DRAGON, BUDDIES POWER and GLOBE RIVER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, JOYFUL WORLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. THUNDER STORM and SHATIN WIN WIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 26 February 2007)
BUDDIES POWER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BUDDIES POWER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have a swollen left front fetlock. As previously advised, BUDDIES POWER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
