Racing Incident Report
Near the 1200 Metres, FULL OF JOY, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of EQUATOR KID. Near the 1000 Metres, BULLISH CASH and RIVER JORDAN were steadied when crowded for room inside the heels of EQUATOR KID (S K Sit). S K Sit was told to exercise greater care. After the 200 Metres, ORIENTAL MAGIC, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the inside of JIANG JUN to continue going forward. Over the concluding stages, TOWERING FEELING hung out and shifted wider on the track. Y T Cheng (JIANG JUN) explained because of the anticipated slow tempo of the race, he was instructed to try and have the horse in a more forward position than usual with cover if possible. He said he rode JIANG JUN along in the early stages, when the tempo of the race was slow, he was not able to obtain a position with cover, he therefore allowed JIANG JUN to remain racing in a three wide position without cover outside the lead. He added in the middle stages and then in the Straight JIANG JUN hung out. When questioned, Apprentice H W Lai (RICE FIELD) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 4th or 5th position. He said RICE FIELD began well, he rode along for a short distance, then endeavoured to steady to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders, however, at this time RICE FIELD would not come back for him and pulled its way forward. He said despite gaining an advantage over TOWERING FEELING near the 1200 Metres he continued to restrain his mount in an attempt to follow his riding instructions and also he was of the belief TOWERING FEELING would be ridden to maintain the lead on the fence. Apprentice Lai was told his explanation would be reported. TOWERING FEELING and RIVER JORDAN were sent for sampling.
