Racing Incident Report

GRAND STORE, DIAMOND FLYER and PRIME TARGET were slow to begin. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, PRIME TARGET was checked severely when crowded for room between DIAMOND FLYER and WIKI WIKI which at this time got its head on the side and hung out. When PRIME TARGET checked, inconvenience was caused to CRUSH ON YOU and DEMINER. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR was inconvenienced when crowded for room between DIAMOND FLYER which had been laying in and was shifted out away from PRIME TARGET and DR POSSI which was racing tight inside JADE CHINA. In the Straight, GRAND STORE hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, JADE CHINA travelled wide and without cover. H K Yim (CRUSH ON YOU) explained the horse sweated up badly prior to the race, then travelled in a rearward position as anticipated. He said in the Home Straight he rode CRUSH ON YOU out vigorously hands and heels and he felt the horse was responding to the best of its ability, therefore he did not use the whip. He did acknowledge after viewing the video that he stopped riding his mount out just prior to the winning post. H K Yim was told his explanation would be reported. In addition, whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of H K Yim did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post where possible. F Coetzee (DEMINER) explained he had been instructed to have the horse which was having its first start on the All Weather Track behind the leaders. He said the early stages of the race were run at a quick tempo, he therefore decided in the early stages to allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said for him to have obtained a forward position would have required him to make considerable use of DEMINER which in his opinion was not in the best interest of the horse as in the past it has failed to finish its races off. He said DEMINER travelled comfortably in the run although in a rearward position. He said in the middle stages he followed ACTIVE VALOUR which he felt was a good chance in the race, however, for the major part of the Straight was not able to obtain clear running and as a consequence was not able to properly test DEMINER. UNIVERSAL PIONEER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, UNIVERSAL PIONEER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making a respiratory noise and an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. GENERAL DANSKE and KEEN TAKER were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported GENERAL DANSKE had blood in its mouth.
