Racing Incident Report

DECISIVE was slow to begin and then raced greenly throughout. From a wide barrier, in the early stages, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE was taken back and across behind runners. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, JAMESINA, which was shifting in, became unbalanced after being bumped by THUNDER VALLEY which at this time shifted out. DECENT FELLOW and BEAUTIFUL CHOICE, which were following, were hampered and carried wider in consequence. Approaching the 600 Metres, CALIFORNIA HEART was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WHISKY POWER. At the 350 Metres, GENERAL SPEEDEE was steadied and shifted to the outside of WHISKY POWER into clear running. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred as the Stewards were of the opinion an incident had occurred inside the final 200 Metres which cast doubt on whether HOLI RAVIOLI ought be declared the 3rd placegetter. B Prebble, the rider of THUNDER VALLEY, 4th placegetter, also viewed the official videos to consider whether he had grounds to lodge a protest/objection against HOLI RAVIOLI being declared the 3rd placegetter. Having viewed the films, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate in the circumstances to proceed with a protest/objection hearing. Whilst it did not influence the Stewards, B Prebble also did not lodge a protest/objection. As such weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. After the 200 Metres, THUNDER VALLEY was steadied when crowded for room between RACING SPIRIT and HOLI RAVIOLI, both of which shifted ground. After this, THUNDER VALLEY continued to race awkwardly inside the heels of HOLI RAVIOLI and near the 100 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of that horse which shifted in slightly. For some distance approaching and passing the 100 Metres, CITY SURFER was steadied when disappointed for running between VITAL PATROL and SPLENDID SAILS, both of which shifted ground. After this incident, VITAL PATROL then shifted in abruptly, obliging F Coetzee, its rider, to stop riding and straighten his mount. Close to the finish, RACING SPIRIT was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENERAL SPEEDEE which at this time was carried wider by WHISKY POWER. Throughout the race, HOLI RAVIOLI travelled wide and without cover. Y T Cheng (GENERAL SPEEDEE) said this was the first occasion on which he had ridden the horse in a race. He said he had been instructed to make use of the inside barrier in an endeavour to have the horse in a handy position. Mr T K Ng, trainer of GENERAL SPEEDEE, said in recent starts from wider barriers the horse had not been used in the early stages to go forward as it previously had been diagnosed as having a wind problem. He said today from barrier 1 he asked Y T Cheng not to give away the advantage and endeavour to hold his position in the early stages. He said it was not the intention to have the horse ridden behind the leaders, however, it was intended to have the horse ridden further forward than it had in its most recent starts. Mr Ng was told his explanation would be reported. JAMESINA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JAMESINA after the race did not show any significant findings. HOLI RAVIOLI, WHISKY POWER and GENERAL SPEEDEE were sent for sampling.-
