Racing Incident Report

DIAMOND FLYER, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 29.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left fore fetlock). Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND FLYER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Nikolic (LUCKY CORDELIA) was fined $2,000 for initially presenting himself at the Parade Ring in the incorrect colours. A BETTER DRAGON began awkwardly and lost ground. FRAMES DEPOT was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was crowded for room inside STEP FORWARD which shifted in. On jumping, C K Tong (SO NICE) lost the use of his left stirrup. C K Tong was unable to regain the use of this stirrup until near the 1400 Metres. After the 1500 Metres, HURRICANE WAY was checked and A BETTER DRAGON steadied when crowded for room between FRAMES DEPOT which shifted in and BAYVIEW LAD which was carried wider by SILVERBIRD which in turn was carried wider by SWEET BABY. No action was taken. Approaching the 1400 Metres, ACCELERATION, which was proving very difficult to settle after being hard ridden in the early stages, was steadied away from the heels of GLOBAL WAY. At the 1400 Metres, LUCKY YEARS was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RAMPANT LION (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not properly clear. O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. On straightening, FRAMES DEPOT was carried wider by SWEET BABY which shifted to the outside of STEP FORWARD into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, LUCKY CORDELIA, which was hanging in, proved difficult to shift to the outside of FRAMES DEPOT into clear running. D Whyte (SWEET BABY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 100 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in, thereby causing crowding on his inside to ACCELERATION and A BETTER DRAGON, as a result of which both horses were checked. In the circumstances of this case, it was considered the appropriate penalty was for D Whyte to be fined the sum of $120,000 in lieu of a period of suspension which would cover 3 Hong Kong racedays. For the major part of the race, LUCKY YEARS travelled wide and without cover. CROWNED GEM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CROWNED GEM after the race did not show any significant findings. SWEET BABY and LUCKY CORDELIA were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 July 2007)
CROWNED GEM, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. CROWNED GEM was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, CROWNED GEM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
