Racing Incident Report
As the start was effected, ROCKALOT sat back and as a consequence was slow to begin, then shortly afterwards lost further ground when crowded for room inside ABLE KNIGHT which itself was hampered and carried in by AMAZING CHOICE which shifted after bounding in the air at the start. RED WINE HONEY was taken across behind runners in the early stages. At the 1700 Metres, DASHING WINNER got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of AMAZING CHOICE. This caused inconvenience to HAPPY HEROES which was racing to its outside. For a short distance after this, DASHING WINNER continued to race awkwardly close to the heels of AMAZING CHOICE. After the 1600 Metres, SAMBUOYANT was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 800 Metres, ROCKALOT, which had been ridden to improve its position, was hampered and carried wider by HAPPY HEROES which at this time was carried out by DASHING WINNER. As a result of this, ROCKALOT was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 600 Metres, DASHING WINNER, which was hanging out, was steadied when held up and unable to improve. Passing the 200 Metres, SOMETHING SPECIAL was inconvenienced when racing tight inside DASH which when giving ground hung in. Close to the line, SOMETHING SPECIAL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of DASH. This caused some inconvenience to RED WINE HONEY which was racing on its outside. In the Straight, COME HO CHOI hung in. E Saint-Martin (RED WINE HONEY) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he rode his mount from the 1200 Metres in an endeavour to stay in touch with the field, however, RED WINE HONEY responded only fairly. He said in the Straight RED WINE HONEY was most disappointing in the manner in which it finished its race off. D Beadman (ABLE KNIGHT) explained the intention had been to ride the horse quietly. He said ABLE KNIGHT travelled a little keenly in the early stages and then relaxed mid-race. He said making the turn after the 700 Metres he was able to improve his position along the rail to follow the eventual winner, AMAZING CHOICE and ABLE KNIGHT continued to travel nicely. He said entering the Home Straight he rode along in an endeavour to follow AMAZING CHOICE forward as that horse improved its position, however, ABLE KNIGHT responded only fairly. He said ABLE KNIGHT kept on only fairly in the run to the line and in his opinion the condition of the horse which was having its first race start for 56 days gave out over the concluding stages. RED WINE HONEY and ABLE KNIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of RED WINE HONEY and ABLE KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. ROCKALOT, AMAZING CHOICE and ELEPHANT DANCE were sent for sampling.
