Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, DANESIS became fractious and reared over. DANESIS was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was lame behind and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DANESIS. Before being allowed to race again, DANESIS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NEVER LOOK BACK bounded in the air at the start. AMBITIOUS GENERAL was slow to begin. In the early stages, GREEN BIRDIE was taken across behind runners. At the 500 Metres, HORACE'S CHOICE was steadied and shifted to the outside of HELENE MASCOT. After the 400 Metres, JACKPOT DELIGHT had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 300 Metres, AMBITIOUS GENERAL, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was shifted wider on the track. Also near the 300 Metres, WIN PRACTITIONER, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of LUCKYME which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, JACKPOT DELIGHT and HELENE MASCOT hung in. Approaching the winning post, DAO DAO, which was giving ground and hanging in, shifted in and made contact with WIN PRACTITIONER. Just prior to the winning post, DAO DAO was checked severely when crowded for room between GREAT GUY which was carried in slightly by AMBITIOUS GENERAL and WIN PRACTITIONER which after initially being bumped by DAO DAO shifted out abruptly. In this incident, GREAT GUY became unbalanced and was checked and WIN PRACTITIONER became badly unbalanced. Having considered all the circumstances, the Stewards believed it appropriate to take no action. In the Straight, GREEN BIRDIE hung in. D Beadman (VIVA HONG KONG) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position. He said accordingly in the early stages he crossed to race outside LUCKYME. He said prior to entering the Back Straight LU YUE improved to race on his outside in a three wide position He said as VIVA HONG KONG is a horse known to him to drop the bit when being restrained, he felt it was in the horse’s best interest to maintain a position outside the leader. He said he was of the opinion LU YUE would either be steadied to take a trailing position or be ridden forward to go to the lead after entering the Back Straight. He said due to the fast tempo at which the race was being run, after the 1000 Metres he elected to steady VIVA HONG KONG to take a position behind the lead and as soon as he did this his mount dropped the bit as he anticipated it would. He said because of this he had to commence riding VIVA HONG KONG with the whip prior to the 700 Metres in an attempt to have the horse maintain its position. He said in the Straight VIVA HONG KONG gave ground. O Peslier (LU YUE) explained he had been instructed initially by the connections of the horse to cross and lead on the fence if possible from the outside barrier. He said he expressed his opinion that he felt it would be difficult to carry out these instructions. He said he was then told to allow the horse prior to entering the Back Straight to stride forward and ensure the race was truly run. He said it was felt by the connections that LU YUE would run out the 2000 Metres of today’s race strongly and it was anticipated through these instructions that other runners which were doubtful at the distance would not be able to finish the race off. When questioned, D Whyte (DAO DAO) said his mount travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages. He said after the 1200 Metres he was aware HELENE MASCOT was racing behind him to his outside and at this time he commenced to shift towards the outside of GREAT GUY to improve his position. He said when he did this DAO DAO shied and shifted out abruptly away from GREAT GUY, as a result of which HELENE MASCOT was steadied away from the heels of DAO DAO. He said after this DAO DAO continued to travel comfortably, however, over the concluding stages failed to run out the 2000 Metres of today’s race at its first time of asking. DAO DAO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DAO DAO after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, B Fayd'herbe reported FEARLESS was making an abnormal breathing noise. FEARLESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FEARLESS after the race did not show any significant findings. HELENE MASCOT and JACKPOT DELIGHT were sent for sampling.
