Racing Incident Report

EYSHAL began awkwardly and lost ground. JADE DRAGONFLY was slow to begin. On jumping, DORDENMA got its head up. In the early stages, RICE FIELD was taken across behind runners from a wide barrier. Near the 1200 Metres, IRON FIST was shifted out away from the heels of SKYVIEW BAR. Approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, GALEN WIN, which was proving difficult to settle, bumped DISGUISE when being steadied away from the heels of IRON FIST. In the early part of the Straight, RICE FIELD had difficulty obtaining clear running, near the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of NATURAL NINE, then approaching the 200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of SKYVIEW BAR which was giving ground. Because of this, RICE FIELD was not fully tested. At the 100 Metres, NATURAL NINE was checked to avoid the heels of EYSHAL (E Saint-Martin) which shifted in when not properly clear. E Saint-Martin was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise greater care. In the run to the winning post, SIR GALAHAD hung in. Throughout the race, DISGUISE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K T Yeung (SKYVIEW BAR) explained after the 600 Metres IRON FIST commenced to work its way forward of him outside the lead. He said near the 500 Metres he looked over his right shoulder to establish how far in front of the field he was to decide whether he should maintain his position to the inside of IRON FIST or to allow that horse to cross. NATURAL NINE, GALEN WIN and WINNING FELLOWSHIP were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NATURAL NINE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood and mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NATURAL NINE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GALEN WIN and WINNING FELLOWSHIP after the race did not show any significant findings. SIGHT WINNER and FLYING TAMARI were sent for sampling.
