Racing Incident Report

On arrival at the Start, C Y Ho expressed concern regarding the action of STAR OF YUEN LONG. STAR OF YUEN LONG was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that in his opinion the horse was lame in its left hind leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, STAR OF YUEN LONG was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, STAR OF YUEN LONG will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MISSION BRAVO stumbled badly at the start, resulting in its rider, K C Leung, becoming very unbalanced. A veterinary inspection of MISSION BRAVO immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MISSION BRAVO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After stumbling at the start, MISSION BRAVO was ridden along for some distance to obtain a forward position and after the 1400 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
LIFELINE VISION shifted out on jumping and bumped the hindquarters of BLOTTING PAPER.
HANDSOME TWELVE was crowded for room on jumping between AMAZING TEENS and NIMBLE NIMBUS which shifted out. After this, from a wide barrier, HANDSOME TWELVE was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
UNITE SPIRIT was steadied in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail.
Passing the 1400 Metres, SUN OF MAKFI was steadied away from the heels of MISSION BRAVO when awkwardly placed behind that horse.
Making the turn near the 1200 Metres, LADY FIRST commenced to travel keenly and was checked away from the heels off FAST PACE which momentarily raced in restricted room inside NIMBLE NIMBUS which was then shifted out to relieve the crowding to FAST PACE. LIFELINE VISION, which was following LADY FIRST, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence near the 1100 Metres. UNITE SPIRIT, which was following LIFELINE VISION, was inconvenienced in consequence.
After the 1200 Metres, HANDSOME TWELVE shifted in and bumped the running rail of its own accord.
AMAZING TEENS travelled very wide and without cover until near the 1000 Metres.
FAST PACE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
HANDSOME TWELVE had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300 Metres.
A Badel (SUN OF MAKFI) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of AMAZING TEENS, resulting in that horse being taken in across the rightful running of MISSION BRAVO which was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Badel was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 4 May 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 8 May 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Badel was fined $120,000.
Near the 100 Metres, FAST PACE was crowded for room between STEEL WIN and NIMBLE NIMBUS which shifted in marginally before being directed out to relieve the crowding. FAST PACE was then awkwardly placed behind NIMBLE NIMBUS over the concluding stages as that horse raced tight inside the heels of SUN OF MAKFI. Because of this, FAST PACE was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. NIMBLE NIMBUS was also not able to be fully tested close to the finishing line.
After the race, J Moreira (LADY FIRST) reported that passing the 200 Metres he was struck on the right arm by the whip of C L Chau (HANDSOME TWELVE).
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on HANDSOME TWELVE at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HANDSOME TWELVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BLOTTING PAPER and HANDSOME TWELVE were sent for sampling.
