COMMENTS AND PROSPECT:
MONGOLIAN KHAN was trained by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman with a record of 8 wins, 1 third and 1 fourth in 17 attempts while Opie Bosson as his usual rider, winning distance from 1400M to 2400M. He is the first runner to capture New Zealand Derby, Australian Derby and Caulfield Cup, and was Horse of the Year in New Zealand in 2014/15 and 2015/16. The son of HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR commenced stud duties in 2016 at Windsor Park Stud with 1 black type contests winner. His service fee in 2022 is NZD$ 4,000.
SAMARKAND was sold at NZD$ 26,000 as a yearling and collected 2 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third in 10 starts in New Zealand and Australia. He was trained by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman at the beginning and won a 1600M maiden event but no surprise in two attempts on black type contest during the Spring carnival. Then he transferred to Bjorn Baker’s yard where he led all the way to win a 1500M event on heavy ground at Kembla Grange and just got caught in a 1600M event at Warwick Farm. His dam SHIMMY is three quarters sister of former Melbourne Cup winner EFFICIENT, where SAMARKAND should be no concern on his stamina as his previous trainer booked him on races at mile or upper in distance. He should be able to handle miles or further in HK while soft going and Happy Valley are fine.
