B Avdulla
Other Jockeys
Brenton Avdulla |
Age: 33 |
Background: Brenton Avdulla was once a leading apprentice in Melbourne before a ‘chance’ phone call from Gai Waterhouse prompted his relocation to Sydney. Rising through the ranks he was crowned 2017/18 Sydney Champion Jockey. Avdulla’s biggest wins include a pair of Golden Slippers – Australia’s most-famous two-year-old race – aboard Estijaab (2018) and Fireburn (2022). Avdulla has won 13 Group 1 races, while his first came in 2010 aboard Secret Admirer in the Flight Stakes. Perhaps his most iconic top-level triumph was aboard 100/1 chance Lasqueti Spirit in the 2016 VRC Oaks, where Avdulla built an insurmountable mid-race lead at Flemington to pinch the contest in miraculous fashion. The Australian rider has formed strong partnerships with Chris Waller, Kris Lees and Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes in recent seasons, while in 2022 he made a successful return from serious neck injury. Avdulla secured three wins in his first stint in Hong Kong across the tail-end of the 2022/23 season. |
Achievements: Sydney Champion Jockey (2017/18). |
Notable Wins Include: Golden Slipper (2018 Estijaab, 2022 Fireburn), VRC Oaks (2016 Lasqueti Spirit), Epsom Handicap (2011 Secret Admirer, 2022 Ellsberg [dead-heat with Top Ranked]), Lightning Stakes (2014 Snitzerland), Randwick Guineas (2011 Ilovethiscity, 2021 Lion’s Roar), Surround Stakes (2022 Hinged), Flight Stakes (2010 Secret Admirer). |
Hong Kong Career Wins (at start of 2023/24 season): 3 (win strike rate 2.2%). |
