| Background: Born in Lyon, France, Marie Velon made her debut as an apprentice to Alain de Royer-Dupre. She moved to Jean-Pierre Gauvin’s stable in 2017 and marked her first win that year and it didn’t take long for her to become one of the leading female jockeys in France. In 2020, she concluded the season with 84 wins, setting the record for most wins in a year by a female jockey in France. She claimed her first Group race in 2021 G3 La Coupe with Iresine, and since then they formed a formidable partnership, scoring in the Prix Royal-Oak (2022), Prix Ganay (2023), G2 Prix Foy (2022 and 2024) and G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris (2024). |
