Racing Incident Report

CHARITY FIRST, which was not standing well, was slowly away. HOT POT missed the start. About the 1000 Metres, CHARITY FIRST was momentarily tight inside ASCOT HERO which itself was tight inside GRENADIER. In the middle stages, ASCOT HERO had a tendency to pull and got its head up when awkward between SIMON'S DECISION and APPLAUSE FOR ME. The Stewards allowed Mr T K Ng, Trainer of SIMON'S DECISION, an opportunity of explaining what on the face of it was an improved run from the horse tonight. Mr Ng said the horse has been generally disappointing over recent times and he had considered 1400 Metres at Sha Tin was its best distance, but as the horse's runs there had been poor, he decided to try Happy Valley over slightly more ground. He said however when racing at the same track and distance last start the rain affected going may have had a bearing on its performance. Mr Ng said the horse had done little work since it last ran and the work that it had done had been only fair, and whilst he was hoping the horse would run well tonight, it winning was a surprise to him. The explanations submitted by Mr Ng were accepted. STAR OF TAI PO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
