Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the barriers, PROLIFIC WINNER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He was concerned with the action of PROLIFIC WINNER and despite assurances from K H Ting, the rider of the horse, that PROLIFIC WINNER has a somewhat unusual action. The Veterinary Surgeon advised the Stewards that in his opinion PROLIFIC WINNER was not fit to start. Accordingly PROLIFIC WINNER was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said PROLIFIC WINNER in his opinion was lame in its off side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PROLIFIC WINNER will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GO THE DISTANCE jumped very awkwardly, shifted in and was further inconvenienced when HOLLYWOOD STAR was taken out by FIELD'S WINNER which left the gates awkwardly with its head up and shifted out abruptly. Near the 800 Metres, GO THE DISTANCE became unbalanced, shifted ground and struck the running rail. Also at the 800 Metres, HOLLYWOOD STAR was steadied when awkward on the heels of CORE PRINCIPLES. About the 600 Metres, CORE PRINCIPLES (T Culhane) was ridden along and shifted in to take up a position behind SPEEDY CHAMPION. T Culhane was advised he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. FIELD'S WINNER, which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of CORE PRINCIPLES, became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped HOLLYWOOD STAR (J Egan) which also became unbalanced and J Egan was momentarily unsteady in the saddle. E Saint-Martin (KEY LARGO) said on the Home Turn he became concerned with the action of the horse and on pulling up immediately dismounted. Subsequent to the race, KEY LARGO was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said he was unable to detect any abnormalities. KEY LARGO will be examined again at the stables of Mr D Hill tomorrow. KEY LARGO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
