Racing Incident Report

The start was delayed as GOLDEN GONG was very difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN GONG will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. STORM BARRIER was slowly away, then just after the start was steadied when crowded between GOLDEN GONG and TIGER DAN, both of which shifted some ground. SPEED MASTER missed the start slightly, was then checked when crowded for room by SALUZI which on leaving the gates shifted in abruptly. In the early stages, SPINNING CITY, which was being ridden to take up a position off the pace, pulled hard and threw its head about. After the 600 Metres, SUPER SIXTY-SIX was shifted out rather abruptly in an endeavour to find running. About the 400 Metres, TIGER DAN (A Marcus), which was running in a race around the bend for the first time tonight, improved to be close to the heels of FLYING KRIS, then became unbalanced, shifted out away from the heels of FLYING KRIS and bumped GOLDEN STRIDE which became unbalanced. As a consequence of this, some inconvenience was caused to SHABU SHABU which was following. The Stewards were satisfied the incident was an accidental one and accordingly no direct action was taken, however, A Marcus was reminded of his obligation to exercise care at all times. Over about the last 200 Metres, SHABU SHABU raced very greenly and hung in. Because of this, Y T Cheng stopped riding several times and straightened. After the 200 Metres, GOLDEN GONG, which was racing greenly, shifted out away from TIGER DAN and brushed GOLDEN STRIDE. When asked about the disappointing performance of GOOD WIN, S Dye said the horse left the gates quickly, but in doing so shifted in abruptly. He said GOOD WIN was able to take up a position in front, he thought it travelled comfortably. He said GOOD WIN in his opinion travelled kindly until about the 400 Metres, but when put under pressure GOOD WIN did not respond at all and in the run to the line was very disappointing. He said the horse's work had been good, had felt well in the pre-race parade and he was not able to put forward any real reason for the run. He did say the horse may not have handled the track conditions, but did not feel this way to him during the race. He said he reported to the trainer that the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise following the race. Mr D A Hayes, trainer of GOOD WIN, confirmed the horse had been working well and was expected to run well by the stable tonight. He was of the view the poor run could be attributed to the horse's inability to handle the conditions. GOOD WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said when he examined GOOD WIN, it was making a respiratory noise. He conducted an endoscopic examination, however, this revealed no abnormalities. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD WIN will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
