Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, WATCH ME WIN bounded in the air and shifted in. On jumping from an outside gate, SONGS OF PRAISE was steadied and shifted across behind other runners to take up a position closer to the rail but towards the rear. Turning out of the Straight the first time, ROUND THE WORLD threw its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WATCH ME WIN and tight inside HARRIS CHOICE. Then for some distance in the early part of the Straight, ROUND THE WORLD was held up behind CHINESESPORT GLORY which was weakening and just inside the heels of CHOCOLATE TYCOON. Near the 300 Metres, A Marcus (BY INSTINCT) momentarily dropped his whip and right rein. He was able to re-gather both after a few strides. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, SONGS OF PRAISE was unable to obtain clear running. To get running, SONGS OF PRAISE was shifted to the outside of CHOCOLATE TYCOON and was then able to go forward. S K Sit (PLENTY OF SURPRISE) said from a difficult gate he rode along hard in the early stages in an endeavour to go forward and get in. He said he was able to obtain a position alongside CHINESESPORT GLORY at about the 1200 Metres, but had to make a lot of use of PLENTY OF SURPRISE in the early stages to do so. He said after this PLENTY OF SURPRISE travelled satisfactorily, but in the Straight got very tired and dropped out. The Veterinary Officer advised PLENTY OF SURPRISE does have a history of arthritis in both front fetlock joints. He said he will be examining PLENTY OF SURPRISE at the stable of Mr K W Lui tomorrow. Before PLENTY OF SURPRISE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. CHINESESPORT GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. CHINESESPORT GLORY was examined after the race. No significant findings were detected. WATCH ME WIN, MR BASKETBALL and BY INSTINCT were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported that on pulling up ROUND THE WORLD was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out. He reported the horse was in his opinion a "roarer". He said the condition of ROUND THE WORLD will be monitored. Before ROUND THE WORLD races again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was noted CHARMING STRIDE had sustained a laceration to the back of its left hind cannon.
