Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, FRUITFUL TRIP bounded in the air. From a difficult gate, MY JOY was obliged to race wide without any cover and over the concluding stages dropped right out. Approaching the Home Turn, FRUITFUL TRIP raced awkwardly between DE INTEGRO and ALWAYS ZIETEN. About the 500 Metres, ENORMOUS WAY was momentarily steadied when crowded between HARMONY PRINCE and FORTUNE DANCER. At about the same time, HARMONY PRINCE was momentarily disappointed for running inside SIR GALWAY. D Dunn (FORTUNE DANCER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that about 100 Metres out, he allowed his mount to shift in whilst riding along when not clear of EMPIRE COURT. This resulted in EMPIRE COURT being crowded onto DE INTEGRO, losing its running and having to be checked. D Dunn was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Wednesday 6 November 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Saturday 26 October 2002 at Happy Valley. After the 100 Metres, HARMONY PRINCE was steadied and shifted to the outside of ALWAYS ZIETEN to try and find running, had difficulty doing so and was not ridden to the finish in the normal fashion. Apprentice M W Leung (ALWAYS ZIETEN) said in the run to the winning post, he was concerned that GUSCOTT was shifting towards him and as a consequence of this, he did not ride the horse to the end of the race in his normal fashion. The explanation was accepted. In the Straight, MAJESTIC WARRIOR hung in. Before the declaration of weighed-in, G Schofield (EMPIRE COURT) sought confirmation of the objection rules. He was of the view that the crowding he received at about the 100 Metres had cost him outright 3rd place. However, when it was pointed out to him for an objection to be sustained he would have to establish but for the interference he could have finished in front of FORTUNE DANCER which had caused the crowding. He said he would not have been able to finish in front of the winner and to proceed with an objection would have been pointless. FORTUNE DANCER and BLACK CARBINE were sent for sampling.
