Racing Incident Report

CIRCUIT KINGDOM was withdrawn on 14.12.02 on veterinary grounds (lame behind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FORTUNE LIFE (M Kinane). Before CIRCUIT KINGDOM can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, MEDIT KING bounded in the air. On jumping, BACCURA shifted out abruptly and bumped ROYAL ARMY. SENSIBLE ADVICE missed the start. Running towards the first turn, LEUNG'S FAVOURITE, which was proving difficult to settle, threw its head about. About the 800 Metres, ROYAL ARMY got its head up when close to the heels of MARSHALL SPIRIT. About the 700 Metres, DASHING CHAMPION brushed the running rail when momentarily crowded by LEUNG'S FAVOURITE which was pulling. For some distance near the 400 Metres, PRIME VAIN, which was looking for running, was awkward on the heels of LEUNG'S FAVOURITE. In the Straight, LITTLE ELEPHANT hung in and proved difficult to ride out. Near the winning post, KING OF FISH was inclined to get its head on the side and shift in away from LITTLE ELEPHANT. As a consequence of this, KING OF FISH and EXCITING TIMES brushed. S Dye (PRIME VAIN) explained the horse in its good runs had drawn well and enjoyed a nice run in those races. He said today from a difficult gate over 1400 Metres, he was instructed by the trainer to steady on jumping, shift across to a position on or near the rail, then ride for luck in the Straight. He did say he was awkward for some time behind LEUNG'S FAVOURITE, but after obtaining clear running, PRIME VAIN did not close off as he thought it would although the horse did keep on right to the line. D Whyte (SMART CHIEF) explained he had been riding the horse in its recent work, he thought this work was good. From the inside draw today, he had expected to be in the box seat and those associated with the stable considered SMART CHIEF would be successful. He said the horse worked to the Start nicely, when the gates opened came out in his opinion in a very sluggish way, had to be ridden along to try and keep up, at no stage did the horse travel as he expected it would and was generally very disappointing. He said he had a nice run in the race and was unable to put forward any real explanation for the run. SMART CHIEF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SMART CHIEF was examined by the Veterinary Officer who was unable to detect any abnormalities. Before SMART CHIEF can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LITTLE ELEPHANT and KING OF FISH were sent for sampling.
