Racing Incident Report
DEEP PURPLE was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (right hind infection). Before racing again, DEEP PURPLE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. EARL GREY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of FORTUNE DANCER. THE PIONEER began awkwardly and got its head up, then was ridden along to go forward, was unable to get in, was obliged to race wide without cover and gave ground from the 1000 Metres, finishing tailed out. The performance of THE PIONEER was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, THE PIONEER must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Making the Home Turn, MILLENNIUM SPIRIT brushed the running rail, shifted out and caused some inconvenience to SILVERBIRD. After the 300 Metres, SILVERBIRD, which was endeavouring to improve between SALENTINO which was giving ground and SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT, bumped SUCCESSIVE SPIRIT, was disappointed for running and shifted in. D Dunn (FORTUNE DANCER) said his mount made ground in the early part of the Straight along with HIGH SKY, however, after the 100 Metes FORTUNE DANCER's run had ended and therefore he did not ride his mount out as he normally would. THE PIONEER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of THE PIONEER after the race did not show any significant findings. RESOURCEFUL PRINCE, EARL GREY and MILLENNIUM SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 18 September 2003)
After the race, THE PIONEER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. THE PIONEER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning and at this time was found to be lame both hind legs.
As previously advised, THE PIONEER will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
