Racing Incident Report
GRANVILLE ISLAND was withdrawn on 6.2.04 on veterinary grounds (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WOODSON (D Boeuf). Before being allowed to race again, GRANVILLE ISLAND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ETERNAL FUN began awkwardly and got its head up. STRAIGHT WIN, which was to be ridden near the rear today, was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied after being bumped by WAH YAN MASCOT which shifted in. ELEGANCE began awkwardly. In the early stages, RECOGNITION hung in and near the 800 Metres brushed the running rail when awkwardly placed tight inside CASH KING. Near the 800 Metres, LIGHTING THE WORLD, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when close to the heels of DANEPRINT. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, DANEPRINT hung out. Making the Home Turn, RECOGNITION when endeavouring to shift to the outside of COSMO STAR raced tight inside CASH KING and made contact with that horse on several occasions. Then for some distance after straightening, RECOGNITION was held up and unable to improve when racing behind LIGHTING THE WORLD and tight inside CASH KING. In the early part of the Straight, COSMO STAR had difficulty obtaining clear running behind DANEPRINT and to the inside of LIGHTING THE WORLD. Near the 200 Metres, COSMO STAR was shifted to the outside of DANEPRINT into clear running and made contact with LIGHTING THE WORLD which was carried in slightly by CASH KING. Near the 100 Metres, COSMO STAR, which had been inclined to shift out away from DANEPRINT, was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of CASH KING. Over the concluding stages, WAH YAN MASCOT hung in. R Fradd (ELEGANCE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said he had noted ELEGANCE performed better at its last start when being ridden about midfield, he therefore allowed ELEGANCE to settle behind midfield and hoped it would again close the race off when ridden more quietly. He said in the Straight he remained on the inside, ELEGANCE commenced to close the race off nicely, however, passing the 200 Metres he steadied ELEGANCE away from the heels of BABY KING which was giving ground. He said after this ELEGANCE again continued to close the race off nicely. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. CASH KING, DANEPRINT and COSMO STAR were sent for sampling.
