Racing Incident Report

SUGAR AND SWEET and ENGINEERING WONDER were slow to begin. On jumping, AFRICAN FOREST and SUPER PRINCE were crowded for room between BILLET EXPRESS and AMO, both of which shifted ground. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, BILLET EXPRESS was carried wider by AFRICAN FOREST which made the turn awkwardly and as a result BILLET EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of ASSET PLAY. Near the 800 Metres, AFRICAN FOREST was checked severely when crowded for room between WISHMASTER which at this time shifted out slightly while being steadied and BILLET EXPRESS which became unbalanced and shifted in away from THE WORLD OF LOVE. While the check to AFRICAN FOREST was of considerable significance, the Stewards believed in the circumstances it was not appropriate to apportion blame to any rider, therefore no action was taken. SUPER PRINCE, which was racing behind AFRICAN FOREST, was checked in consequence. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, AMO was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of WISHMASTER which at this time got its head on the side and lay in. ENGINEERING WONDER, which was following AMO, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, AFRICAN FOREST hung out. Near the 100 Metres, ASSET PLAY, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WISHMASTER which shifted in when not properly clear. In the Straight, SUGAR AND SWEET hung in and proved difficult to ride. F Coetzee (SUPER PRINCE) explained the horse raced further back than he had anticipated as it began only fairly. He said after this he rode along, however, after entering the Back Straight WISHMASTER steadied in front of him, he then had to take hold to come back away from that horse and SUPER PRINCE proved very difficult to settle at this time. He said afterwards he again started to ride SUPER PRINCE along, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding in the Straight and was most disappointing. He said in his opinion SUPER PRINCE was not suited by the manner in which tonight's race was run. SUPER PRINCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SUPER PRINCE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER PRINCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A Marcus (BILLET EXPRESS) said it had been intended to ride the horse in the box seat. He said he rode BILLET EXPRESS along in the early stages, however, at all times the horse appeared reluctant to race amongst runners and on occasions became unbalanced. He said in the Straight BILLET EXPRESS failed to respond to his riding and gave ground. BILLET EXPRESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of BILLET EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, BILLET EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUGAR AND SWEET was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SUGAR AND SWEET after the race did not show any significant findings. ABLE EAGLE and SWISS LAD were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported THE WORLD OF LOVE was sore over the wither.
