Racing Incident Report
MAGICAL LOT was withdrawn on raceday morning on veterinary grounds (infection to the right hind leg). Before being allowed to race again, MAGICAL LOT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the gates opened, SPARKLE leant against the outside of its stall, began awkwardly and consequently was slow to begin. SIR HUMOR began very awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and was checked away from the heels of CLEAN SWEEP. On jumping, CLASSIC KING stumbled. Shortly after the start, CLEAN SWEEP shifted in abruptly, causing G Mossé, its rider, to become unbalanced and almost be dislodged. Near the 1300 Metres, CHECK MATE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC KING which when proving difficult to settle shifted in. After the 1200 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of CLEAN SWEEP. In the middle stages, QUICK NEWS proved difficult to settle. After the 400 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was shifted to the inside of SWEET SMILE to obtain clear running. VICTORY TURBO raced in a forward position but was wide and without cover throughout. D Holland (CLASSIC KING) said the horse did not feel comfortable at any stage of the race. He said when racing on the rail making the turn at the 800 Metres CLASSIC KING became unbalanced and shifted out. He said after this CLASSIC KING was reluctant to hold its position inside QUICK NEWS. He said he rode along to ensure CLASSIC KING maintained its position. He said in the Straight CLASSIC KING appeared reluctant to fully extend itself and was most disappointing. He did say in his opinion CLASSIC KING appeared not to appreciate racing inside other runners. CLASSIC KING, CLEAN SWEEP and SPARKLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CLASSIC KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC KING will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CLEAN SWEEP and SPARKLE after the race did not show any significant findings. VERY FIT and VICTORY TURBO were sent for sampling.
