Racing Incident Report

GREENESSY began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. LIFELINE RAPIDE began awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE LIFE which was carried in slightly by CHAMP DRAGON. On jumping, SPINNING CITY threw its head about. DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was slow to begin. Near the 1200 Metres, FORTUNE LIFE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up and raced ungenerously. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CHINSOLA was checked to avoid the heels of THE ONLY ONE which after racing ungenerously and laying in momentarily shifted out and then shifted back in. LUCKY CHAMPION, which was following, was checked and GREENESSY was checked severely to avoid the heels of LUCKY CHAMPION. Near the 700 Metres, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FANTASTIC WIN. After straightening, LUCKY CHAMPION was shifted to the outside of SPINNING CITY to obtain clear running. K S Yu (FANTASTIC WIN), which was closing the race off fairly, reported he had difficulty obtaining clear running between THE ONLY ONE and CLASSA VICTORY over the concluding stages. F Coetzee (NILOMETER) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in about 4th position if possible. He said NILOMETER in the past had not raced genuinely in the early stages, got back in the field and subsequently found trouble in running in the Home Straight. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of NILOMETER, confirmed the instructions issued to F Coetzee and said these were consistent with the instructions issued for the horse on previous occasions, however, the horse had not been able to obtain a forward position previously. He said it had been decided to add side winkers to the gear of NILOMETER in an attempt to have the horse race more truly in the early stages in the hope of it obtaining a forward position and avoid finding trouble in running. Mr Cruz did say he was somewhat surprised NILOMETER was able to obtain a position outside the lead in the race as he had anticipated the horse would be somewhere slightly in front of midfield. Mr Cruz was told where possible it is expected to have horses ridden in a consistent manner. AMPLE GAINS, NILOMETER and LIFELINE RAPIDE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported FORTUNE LIFE had bled from both nostrils.
